Daily sales cap and fallback offer
How to limit the number of an offer's sales per day and choose where clicks go after the cap is reached.
After the daily sales cap is reached, the tracker stops giving the offer to new clicks and sends them to another offer in the same stream. The owner, admin, team lead and designer can edit offers. You need an offer, a stream that contains it, and a configured incoming postback: the tracker learns about sales from the network's postbacks.
What counts as a sale and for which day
- The count includes the offer's conversions with the
salestatus. Leads, holds and rejections do not use up the cap. How network statuses become a sale — see Conversion types. - A “click + transaction ID” pair counts as one sale: a repeated postback does not increase the count. Without a transaction ID, a click gives no more than one sale. If the network changed a sale's status to rejected, the sale is removed from the count. For details, see Transaction ID, duplicates and conversion corrections.
- A day is a calendar day, from midnight to midnight in the offer's time zone. At midnight the count starts over.
- A sale belongs to the day the tracker received the postback about it, not to the day of the click.
- The count is shared by the offer across all streams and campaigns.
Set the cap and time zone
- Open the Offers («Офферы») section.
- Click the offer name — the Edit offer («Изменить оффер») window opens. For a new offer, click + Offer («+ Оффер»): the Create offer («Создать оффер») window has the same fields.
- In the Sales cap per day («Лимит продаж в день») field, enter a whole number from
0. An empty field with the “No cap” («Без лимита») placeholder means the offer has no limit. With0the offer is not given to new clicks. - In the Time zone · IANA («Часовой пояс · IANA») field, enter the time zone used to count days, for example
Europe/Moscow. The default isUTC. - Click Save («Сохранить»), or Create offer in the new offer window.
A label like 50/день (50 per day) appears next to the name in the offer list.
Choose a fallback offer
- In the Edit offer window, open the Fallback offer when the cap is reached («Резервный оффер при достижении лимита») list.
- Choose an offer or leave Automatically from the stream («Автоматически из потока»).
- Click Save.
The list contains offers with the “active” («активен») status, except the offer itself.
- A specific offer — clicks after the cap go to it first.
- Automatically from the stream — the replacement is chosen by rotation by weight among the other offers of the stream.
Add the fallback offer to the stream
A fallback offer gets clicks only if it is added to the same stream as the main offer and has the “active” status.
- Open the campaign and click the gear button on the stream card — the Stream settings («Настройки потока») window opens.
- On the Rotation («Ротация») tab, click + Item («+ Элемент»).
- In the first list of the new row, choose Offer («Оффер»).
- In the second list, choose the fallback offer.
- In the field on the right, replace
100with0. - Click Save stream («Сохранить поток»).
With weight 0, the offer does not take part in regular rotation and gets clicks as a replacement. This weight suits an offer chosen in the Fallback offer when the cap is reached list: with Automatically from the stream, the replacement is chosen among offers with a weight above zero. Weights are described in Rotation and split tests of landing pages and offers.
Replacement order when the cap is reached
For each new click, the tracker chooses the offer like this:
- Chooses an offer by the stream's weights.
- If the chosen offer has reached its cap, takes its fallback offer from the same stream.
- If the fallback offer has also reached its cap, takes its own fallback offer, and so on down the chain.
- If the fallback offer is not in the stream or the chain has ended, chooses by weight among the stream's offers that have not reached their cap. Offers with weight
0do not take part here if the stream has an offer with a weight above zero.
In a stream with the Landing → offer funnel («Воронка ленд→оффер») action, the cap is checked once more on the transition from the landing page to the offer: if the cap was reached while the visitor was on the landing page, they get the replacement. For details, see From landing page to offer and multi-offer.
With visitor binding on, a bound offer that has reached its cap is replaced the same way.
This is how replacement works in the By weight («По долям») selection mode, which is the default. In the Unvisited, by weight («Непосещённые по долям») and Sequential («Последовательно») modes, an offer that has reached its cap is excluded before the choice — see Paused and capped offers.
If there are no free offers
When there is no replacement, the visitor gets a 404 response. The click is recorded in the statistics and does not go to another stream of the campaign.
A stream with one offer returns 404 after the cap is reached until the end of the day in the offer's time zone. To avoid losing traffic, add a fallback offer without a cap to the stream.
Sales cap and click cap
You can also set a click cap per period for an offer — the Offer click cap («Лимит кликов оффера») block in the same window. The two caps are counted separately.
- The offer stops getting new clicks when either of the two caps is reached.
- The sales cap is checked first, then the click cap. An offer not given to a click because of the sales cap does not take a slot in the click cap. If the sales cap was reached while the visitor was on the landing page, the slot taken on entry stays taken — see What counts as a click.
- The Fallback offer when the cap is reached field is shared by both caps. The replacement order after the click cap — see What happens after the cap.
- The Time zone · IANA field applies only to the sales cap. The click cap has its own time zone — the Period time zone («Часовой пояс периода») field.
Limits
- The cap is soft: the tracker learns about a sale from a postback. Clicks sent to the offer before that can bring sales above the cap.
- Sales since the start of the current day are counted as soon as the cap is saved. For an offer already in use, the hint in the panel recommends turning the cap on at the start of its local day.
- A copy of the offer created with the Copy («Копировать») button is a separate offer with the same cap and fallback offer settings and its own sales count. The Access («Доступ») button does not create a copy: an offer with shared access has one sales count.
Check
- Open the campaign and check on the stream card that the fallback offer is in the Rotation · A/B («Ротация · A/B») block.
- After the cap is reached, click Statistics («Статистика») on the campaign page.
- Open the Click log («Лог кликов») tab and choose the Today («Сегодня») period.
- Check the Offer column: new clicks show the fallback offer.
FAQ
If the offer window did not close after you clicked Save, the changes were not saved. Close the window: the error text is shown above the offer list.
The cap is reached, but clicks do not go to the fallback offer
Check that the fallback offer is added to the same stream, has the “active” status and has not reached its own cap. With Automatically from the stream, the replacement offer must have a weight above zero.
cap_timezone must be a valid IANA time zone
The time zone is not in IANA format. Enter a name like Europe/Moscow or choose a value from the field's suggestions.
overflow offer must be active
The fallback offer chosen is currently paused or archived. Choose another offer in the Fallback offer when the cap is reached list or set the previous one back to “active”.
overflow offer must belong to this workspace
The fallback offer was deleted. Choose another offer in the list, or restore the previous one from the trash and set it back to “active”: after a restore the offer is paused.
