IP2Proxy: proxy, VPN and data center database

The IP2Proxy database detects the visitor's connection type: data center, VPN, Tor or proxy. You connect it in the IP2Proxy block on the Settings → Bots and GEO («Настройки → Боты и гео») tab. You need a download token from your IP2Location account with access to an IP2Proxy BIN package.

What depends on the database

Without the database, the connection type of every click is empty:

• the Block proxy / VPN / Tor («Блокировать прокси / VPN / Tor») checkbox in cloaking has no effect;
• the Connection («Коннект») stream condition gets an empty value, and Proxy / DC («Прокси / ДЦ») is always false, see Stream filters;
• the {connection_type} macro is empty and {is_using_proxy} is always 0, see Macros.

Once the database is loaded, the tracker marks data center addresses as bots in all campaigns, regardless of the cloaking checkbox. VPN, Tor and proxies are not counted as bots: they are filtered out by the cloaking checkbox or by a stream condition.

Who can configure it

The Bots and GEO tab is visible to the owner and the admin. The IP2Proxy block works only for the installation owner — the account created in the first-run wizard. Everyone else, including when logged in as a user, sees the message “The IP2Proxy database is available to the installation owner” («База IP2Proxy доступна владельцу установки»). The setting is shared by the whole installation.

Connecting the database

1. Click the Admin panel («Админ-панель») icon in the top right corner of the panel.
2. Open Settings → Bots and GEO.
3. Paste the key into the Download token field. The key length is from 8 to 512 characters.
4. Check that the Update the database automatically («Автоматически обновлять базу») checkbox is selected. Without it the database is not downloaded.
5. Click Save («Сохранить»).

The message “Saved. The download will start automatically.” («Сохранено. Загрузка начнётся автоматически.») appears, and the field name gets the mark “· saved” («· сохранён»). The saved key is not shown in the panel. To replace it, enter a new one and click Save. Saving with an empty field keeps the previous key.

Choosing a package

By default the tracker finds the highest package available for the key: first among PX12–PX1, then among PX12 LITE–PX1 LITE. To set the package manually:

1. Expand the Package selection («Выбор пакета») block.
2. In the Subscription package («Пакет подписки») list, choose a package: from PX1BIN to PX12BIN or from PX1LITEBIN to PX12LITEBIN.
3. Click Save.

The Detect automatically («Определить автоматически») option returns to automatic selection. The connection type is included in packages starting from PX2. PX1 contains only the country: with it the connection type stays empty.

Update schedule

• After a successful download, the next check is in 24 hours.
• After an error, the tracker retries the download in an hour.
• Saving the settings with a key and auto-update turned on starts the download again.
• The Check for update («Проверить обновление») button starts a download outside the schedule, and the message “Check queued.” («Проверка поставлена в очередь.») appears. Another check is available 5 minutes after the previous download started. The button is inactive while a download is running, when no key is saved or when auto-update is off.

The new database is applied to traffic without restarting the tracker.

Status lines

The block under the buttons refreshes on its own every 10 seconds. Values of the State («Состояние») line:

Other lines:

• Package («Пакет») — the package of the last successful download. Before it — “Will be determined on download” («Будет определён при загрузке»).
• Last successful download («Последняя успешная загрузка») — the date and time, or “None yet” («Ещё не было»).
• Next check («Следующая проверка») — the date and time. Without a key — “Enter the download token” («Укажите download token»); with auto-update off — “Auto-update is off” («Автообновление выключено»).

Below the block, the last download error is shown in red, and a message from traffic processing is shown in gray with the mark “Handler:” («Обработчик:»).

Connection types

The country and the provider are also taken from IP2Proxy if other geo databases did not provide them.

Checking

1. Wait until the State line shows “New database is applied to traffic”.
2. Open Admin panel → Status («Админ-панель → Состояние»).
3. Make sure that in the Engine geo databases («Геобазы движка») block ip2proxy shows “Loaded” («Загружена») — see Tracker geo databases.

Deleting the key and turning off auto-update

To stop updates and keep the key, clear the Update the database automatically checkbox and click Save. The message “Saved. Auto-update is off.” («Сохранено. Автообновление выключено.») appears.

To delete the key:

1. Click Delete key («Удалить ключ»).
2. Confirm the question “Delete the saved IP2Proxy key and turn off auto-update? The current database will keep working.” («Удалить сохранённый ключ IP2Proxy и выключить автообновление? Текущая база продолжит работать.»)

The message “Key deleted. The loaded database keeps working.” («Ключ удалён. Загруженная база продолжает работать.») appears. In both cases the database file stays on the server, and traffic is still checked against it.

Limits

• The tracker accepts an archive of up to 512 MiB and a database file of up to 2 GiB.
• The database file is stored on the tracker server. The panel does not deliver it to separate traffic processing servers.
• Reverse proxy nodes do not need the database.

If something went wrong

If a download fails, the tracker keeps working with the last working database.

“The key does not give access to an IP2Proxy BIN package; check the download token and the subscription” («Ключ не даёт доступа к BIN-пакету IP2Proxy; проверьте download token и подписку»)

The provider did not confirm access to the selected package or, with automatic selection, to any package.

1. Check in your IP2Location account that your subscription includes an IP2Proxy BIN package.
2. Enter the download token again.
3. If the package was chosen manually, choose Detect automatically.
4. Click Save.

“The IP2Proxy subscription has expired; renew it with the provider” («Подписка IP2Proxy истекла; продлите её у поставщика»)

Renew the subscription in your IP2Location account. The tracker retries the download in an hour; the Check for update button starts it sooner.

“The settings have changed; reload the page before saving” («Настройки изменились; обновите страницу перед сохранением»)

The form was opened with an older version of the settings. They were changed in another tab, or a database download started after the page was opened — for example, right after the key was saved. Reload the page and repeat the action.
